The last recipe in our 2022 Nutrition Education Program is Corn Chowder. Come over to the Clay County Extension Office for our monthly Cooking Through the Calendar class on December 12th at 1:00pm and let's warm up with some soup! Call 598-2789 to register. Free and open to the public!


Card Club meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. This month’s meeting will be on December 13th at 1 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. The Card Club welcomes new members. If you’re not already a Homemaker member, dues are $12 annually.


4-H Family Paint Day will be on Tuesday, December 13th at 4PM at the Clay County EXCEL Building. Parents and guardians are welcome to paint with their child. FREE & open to youth ages 5-18 and their parents/guardians. Call to register by December 8th at 598-2789.


Be Strategic when Choosing your Professional References will be online on December 13th from 9-10:15 am EST presented by Caroline Francis, Ed. S., CCC, BCC, CCSP, CPRC, Director of Alumni Career Services, UK. Job seekers and career changers typically spend a great deal of time and effort on their actual job search but neglect strategically choosing and coaching their references. Join us for our 4-H Gingerbread House Contest! Edible houses will be judged based on creativity and neatness. Categories include Cloverbud (Age 5-18), Junior (Age 9-14), Senior (Age 15-18) and Family (decorating as a family). Drop off your houses December 14-15th at the Clay County Extension Office (8:00AM-4:00PM). Winners will be announced December 16th. Grand Champion winners will receive a ribbon, door prize and gingerbread cookie recipe.


December 15th at 1:00 pm at the Extension Office will be another Diabetes Support lesson with Tammy Pennington. The theme will be "Staying Healthy with Diabetes at Christmastime". Call 598-2789 to register. FREE & open to the public!


Feeder Cattle Backgrounding Short Course will be December 15 – 16 in Versailles, KY. You must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/469124111847


On-Farm Irrigation or Water Management Projects

Are you considering a new irrigation system or another water related project or upgrade on your farm? The Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF) offers an On-Farm Water Program to help KY growers with water projects. The program has cost-share funds to incentivize better water management practices. Projects can include irrigation infrastructure, micro-irrigation systems, high tunnel gutters and catchment systems, and many more strategies to help you manage water for your produce crops. Program guidelines for Producer Implemented Projects (Section IV beginning on pg. 6) can be found online: https://www.kyagr.com/agpolicy/documents/2022-Program-Guidelines-Applications/ADF_APP_project-guidelines_water.pdf. The final deadline for funding this year is December 16, 2022.


Pins & Needles Homemaker Club meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10 AM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. This month, they will meet on December 17th. This club always welcomes new members! Bring your materials and join them with your sewing projects. Don't know how to sew, no problem...they will teach you! If you’re not already a homemaker member, dues are $12 annually. Call 598-2789 for more information.


4-H Art Club Make & Take will be on December 19th at 1PM at the Clay County Extension Office. Join us for crafts & snacks! FREE & open to all youth ages 5-18. You must call to register by December 14th at 598-2789.


Save the Date! Cookies with Santa will be on Tuesday, December 20th from 1-3:00 PM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. There will be pictures with Santa, cookies, story time with Ms. Sandy, 4-H Community Service Project, cookie decorating, ornament crafts, free books, recipe sampling, games, snacks & more! FREE & open to the public!

"It's a new year and that means a new recipe calendar! We'll be Cooking Through the 2023 NEP Calendar at the Clay County Extension Office on January 19th at 1:00 pm. All of the apples have been picked from the trees and you may find yourself with some extras these days. Save the date for Preserving Your Apples. On January 26th at 3:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office, we'll talk about a few methods of preserving them! This will be a hands-on lesson and you'll get to take home a jar of preserved apples. Call 598-2789 to register. FREE & open to the public!
