RECIPE CLUB: If you love cooking and trying new recipes, join our Homemaker Recipe Club!!! We will not meet in person; all you have to do is call to be added to our list! Once we have your contact information, you will receive 3 new recipes in the mail each month! We encourage you to try these at home with your family, take pictures and let us know what you think! If you are not already a paid Homemaker, dues are $12.00 annually. Call 598-2789 for more information.

Farmers Market: The Clay County Community Farmers Market is Manchester's connection for locally grown farm products and area crafts. Open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the EXCEL Building, 86 Muddy Gap Road, Manchester. 

June 4: 4-H Photography Day Camp - Join us for our second day of 4-H Photography Camp on June 4th at 11:00 AM. We will meet at the Clay County Extension Office and travel to various locations for photo opportunities! Photos will be entered in the 4-H Project Showcase July 18th, and grand champ winners will have the opportunity to enter photos in the KY State Fair! Cameras and photos will be due back by July 8th.

June 6: 4-H Paint Day - Our next 4-H Paint Day is June 6th at 2:00 PM at the Clay County EXCEL Building. This is a time for parents/guardians to paint with their child (age 8-18).  If younger, the child is required to have adult supervision.  You must call to register by June 3rd!

June 11: Card Club - Would you like to learn how to make beautiful greeting cards? Join our Homemaker Card Making Club, led by Gail Voyles! We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. at the Clay County Extension Office. We always welcome new members. If you are not already a paid Homemaker, dues are $12 annually. Your annual Homemaker dues allow you to join any of our Homemaker Clubs. Our next meeting will be June 11th!

June 14:  Create & Inspire Club - The Create & Inspire club, led by Lona Cornett, will meet on the 2nd Friday of each month from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at the EXCEL Building, 86 Muddy Gap Road (Behind McDonald's). Club members will be able to work on their choice of enjoyable hobbies, whether it be quilting, painting, embroidery, or just whatever. Bring your project and join us for a creative and inspiring day! Our first meeting will be Friday, June 14th. If you are not already a paid Homemaker, dues are $12.00 annually. June 15: Pins & Needles - The Pins & Needles Homemaker Club is led by Laura Garrison and meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10:00 a.m. at the EXCEL building, 86 Muddy Gap Road. This club always welcomes new members! Bring your materials and join us with your sewing projects. Don’t know how to sew, no problem...we will teach you! If you’re not already a paid homemaker, dues are $12 annually. Call 598-2789 for more information. Our next meeting will be June 15th!

June 18: 4-H Art Club -  If you enjoy being creative or need another way to escape, join the 4-H Art Club! Our summer club meetings will be held June 18th & July 16th at 2:00 PM at the Clay County Extension Office. You must call to register in order for us to prep for supplies.

June 18: Agriculture & Forestland Producers Opportunity Day - The USDA field office (FSA & NRCS) in Barbourville (serving Whitley, Bell, Harlan, Knox, & Clay counties) will be having an outreach/appreciation day on Tuesday, June 18th from 11am-1pm. We will be grilling out, helping producers complete their crop reports (which are due July 15th), and discussing current USDA programs.

June 22: Pollinators Plant Sales - National Pollinator week is June 17th - 23rd. To celebrate this event, there will be a Pollinator Plant sale on June 22nd from 9 am - 1 pm at the Clay County Community Farmers Market located at the EXCEL Center, 86 Muddy Gap Road. Plants will be offered at prices from $1.50 - $5.00 and select trees offered at $15.00. The following plants will be available: Aster, Bee Balm, Big Blue Stem, Bishops Flower, Black Eyed Suzan, Blue Mistflower, Blue Wild Indigo, Butterfly Flower, Dwarf or Ear-Leaved Tickseed, Hyssop, Karmina Geranium, Joe Pye Weed, Little Blue Stem, Maltese Cross, Mist Flower, New Jersey Tea, Prairie, Dropseed, Purple Coneflower, Queen Anne's Lace, Rose Mallow, Royal Candle Veronica, Sweet Coneflower, White Wild Indigo, Joe Pye Weed, Queen Anne's Lace, & Black Eyed Suzan. The following trees will also be available: Button Bush, Silky and Rough Leaf Dogwood, & Ninebark.

June 24: 4-H Homeschool Club - If you are a homeschooler, we would love to have you join this club! We focus on a variety of topics and travel to new places to enhance our knowledge in many different areas! Our next club meeting is June 24th. You must call to reserve your spot and receive meeting location details.

June 25: 4-H Cooking Club - Join us as we make a variety of summer and KY State Fair recipes this summer! We will be meeting on June 25th at 2:00 PM at the Clay County Extension Office. You must call to register.

June 26&28: Let’s Garden! - Join us for two days of 4-H educational gardening activities and fun! We will have two special guests presenting information on pollinators and gardening tips on June 26th and June 28th at 1:00 PM each day at the Clay County Extension Office.

June 27: Beekeepers (They will meet the 4th Thursday of the month and will let us know if they want to do a potluck a month ahead of time. The Clay County Beekeepers Association will meet on Thursday, June 27th, at 6:00 PM at the EXCEL Building, 86 Muddy Gap Road. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper, feel free to contact Clay County Cooperative Extension Service at 598-2789 to learn about our local organization meetings and grant opportunities. New members are always welcome!  

KSU Beginner Beekeeping Grant: The Clay County Beekeepers Association would like to share some information about the Kentucky State University Beginner Beekeeping Grant available for new beekeepers. The following link will take you to the complete grant application. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper, feel free to contact the Clay County Cooperative Extension office to learn about our local organization meetings and other opportunities such as this. If you are interested in joining and becoming a new beekeeper in Clay County, this is a great way to get started! The beginner beekeeping grant covers: Basic hive box materials, basic tools for beekeeping such as smoker and hive tool, basic personal protective equipment (PPE) for beekeeping such as helmet and veil, test kits for disease and pests such as European Foulbrood or American Foulbrood. 4-H CAMP: Mark your calendars for 4-H Summer Camp July 30th-August 2nd!! Join us for a few days of activities, programs and much more. You must have completed 3rd grade, or you must be 9-14 years of age to attend camp as a camper. Ages 15-18 can serve as counselors in training or teen counselors at camp! This is a great opportunity to receive community service hours! Applications are now available! You can receive an application on our website by clicking the link below or pick one up at the Clay County Extension Office. Return ASAP with deposit to reserve your spot.
