2023 HEIRLOOM APPLE TREE PROJECT 50/50 Cost Share: The Clay County Conservation District in a continuing effort to support small, sustainable Heirloom Orchards will once again be offering Heirloom Apple Tree packages. The packages will contain 4 apple trees which will bear across the season and pollinate each other. (Two of the same tree are not required for pollination). Limit of one package per customer/address. Limited to Clay County Residents only. The approximate cost per package is $40. Packages will include one June Apple, one Grimes Golden Apple and two other trees selected by the nursery to grow in this area. 2023 Cost Share Program Sign-ups: The Clay County Conservation District will be assisting local landowners with KY State Cost Share applications through November 14, 2023. This competitive statewide cost share program promotes practices that will protect and improve the water quality within our Commonwealth with emphasis on Best Management Practices (BMP’s) to manage livestock, manure, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.. Investment areas include: Animal Feeding Operations; Livestock Pastureland/Hayland; Cropland; Forestland; Streambanks, and Farmsteads. You can find more information about this cost share program by searching KY State Cost Share online or by calling the Clay County Conservation District Office at 606-598-5132 or by emailing us at claycosoilcd@windstream.net. The Clay County Conservation District is an Equal Opportunity Provider adhering to both Federal and State Guidelines.

Clay County Extension District Board will be meeting on Monday, August 7th at 11:30 am at the Clay County Extension Office.

Card Making Club meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 1PM at the Clay County Extension Office. Join this homemaker club and create beautiful greeting cards each month. The Card Club welcomes new members. If you’re not already a Homemaker member, dues are $12 annually.

Creative Connections meets on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 10 AM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. Crafters of all kinds, come join others who need a place to spread out, encouragement, or just some time to finish an ongoing project! Participants will bring their own personal projects, necessary tools, and supplies. Clay County Homemaker dues are $12 per year. New members are always welcome!

Clay County Cattleman Meeting – August 15th at 6 pm at EXCEL. Please call 598-2789 to register to ensure we have an accurate head count for food. CAIP educational requirement approved.

4-H Art Club will meet on August 15th at 4 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to all youth ages 9-18. Please call 598-2789 to reserve your spot.

August 17-27 KY State Fair

Pins & Needles Homemaker Club meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10 AM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. This club always welcomes new members! Bring your materials and join them with your sewing projects. Don't know how to sew, no problem...they will teach you! If you’re not already a homemaker member, dues are $12 annually. Call 598-2789 for more information.

Woodland Owner Association Field Day – August 24th at 6 pm at Jimmie Sizemore's farm, 591 Sarvis Branch Rd, Manchester, KY 40962. Please join us for a meeting to discuss what to do with your woods: Sugar Bush Management, Forest Stand Improvement and Forest Farming. A meal will be provided, so please call 598-2789 to register. CAIP educational requirement approved.

Clay County Beekeepers Association will meet on August 24th at 6PM at the EXCEL building, 86 Muddy Gap Rd. A potluck meal is usually provided. Bring a dish and come see what the buzz is all about!
