Family and Consumer Sciences: The goal of the Family & Consumer Sciences Program is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.  We address the challenges of critical issues affecting people's daily lives in a changing environment.  Programs focus on economic, social and physical well-being of our clients.  We strengthen personal and family relationships, encourage healthful choices, and identify resources to extend income.

The Clay County Extension Office is open. During these challenging times, we are trying to keep everyone safe. If you are feeling ill, running a temperature, or have any symptoms, please do NOT enter our office. If you enter, you MUST wear a mask, you MUST sign in & out on our visitor log, and you MUST maintain a 6ft. distance, following University of Kentucky guidelines.

►Lora is going to be doing some ZOOM and Facebook live programs to continue offering Family & Consumer Science programs.  Notices for these programs will be on our webpage, in our newsletter and on our office Facebook page:  Clay County Cooperative Extension Service.

For the ZOOM programs, we need your email.  Please send to Lora at lhoward@uky.edu   The programs are offered to the public, so if you wish to participate, watch our office Facebook page for them.

 


Programs You May Be Interested In

Walking for Life starts March 21st and runs until May 29th.  This is a program for the entire family that wants to start walking and making small changes that can lead to large changes in their life. You will need to walk for at least 30 minutes 5 times per week for 10 weeks. You will receive calendars to record your walking time. Calendars must be returned to the Clay County Extension Office every 2 weeks. You can drop them off, email or mail them, or fax them. Send us the registration form (name, address, phone #, email address and t-shirt size) for you and your family and enjoy the benefits of walking for your health.  Cost is $10.00.  You will receive a t-shirt in the middle of the program after we receive your logs. ●Bingocize is a 10-week program that combines a bingo-like game with exercise.  Come join us for a fun hour while we improve our body.  This program will help you experience improved lower and upper body strength, gait, balance, range of motion and maintain mobility.  Dates for the program are ●April 21, 26, 28 ●May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 ●June 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 beginning at 10:30 am at the Extension Office.  Attendees must maintain a 6-foot distance and wear a mask for the program.  You must call 598-2789 to register.  Program is limited, so call soon.  FLYER

● Laugh & Learn Time will be held April 23, May 7, July 2 and August 6 at 11:00 am.  This program is for younger children 3-4 years of age that are home with mom or the babysitter.  We will be meeting via Facebook Room or Zoom with both programs.  Lora must have your email address.  The children will need the supplies that will be in a Grab and Go Bag that will need to be picked up in the Extension Office vestibule for each month.  We will be reading a book and doing a craft with help from the caregiver.  Program is limited so call 598-2789 to register.

● Sensational Salad will be May 5th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Join us and learn about the different salad greens and the benefits of including a salad in your diet. Due to Covid restrictions, we will no be sampling any food. You must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. FREE & open to the public. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register. 

● Homemaker County Annual Meeting will be on May 11 at 6:00 pm at the EXCEL building. All Clay County Homemakers received an invitation. You must call 598-2789 to register, as we are providing a boxed meal. Our theme is 50's Car Hop, so come dressed in your favorite 50's attire. We will recognize our winner for the Book & Puzzle Challenge.

● Plate It Up will be on May 13th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office & via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Join us as we prepare a Plate It Up recipes using vegetables or fruits that can be grown in Kentucky gardens. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be sampling food. You must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register.

Plants:  Spring Fever will be on May 14th at 1:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and via Facebook Live. You can attend the program either way. Lora will be demonstrating how she plants ina container. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be sampling food. You must wear a mask and maintain a 6 ft. distance. Space is limited, so you must call 598-2789 to register.

 ♦We do have USDA approved up-to-date canning, freezing and drying publications. If you will call us, we will put your copies in the   vestibule for you to pick up.

We can check your dial gauge pressure canner lids.  Call 598-2789 to let us know when you will be coming.  We will check your lid while you wait.  You must call us when you arrive at our office.
