Family and Consumer Sciences: The goal of the Family & Consumer Sciences Program is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.  We address the challenges of critical issues affecting people's daily lives in a changing environment.  Programs focus on economic, social and physical well-being of our clients.  We strengthen personal and family relationships, encourage healthful choices, and identify resources to extend income.

 PROGRAMS


Homemaker Christmas Party/Holiday Ideas will be December 3rd at 6:00 pm. We are going to try something different this year with Holiday Ideas.  Grab a re-gifted item and come participate and have a great time! Come December 3rd at the Extension Office for a Homemaker Christmas Party.  Lora will share the Holiday Ideas (20 crafts). ●Bring an item from home you want to re-gift and we will exchange gifts.  ●We will make a craft for you to take home (a Tea Light Snowman) ●We will serve tea, punch and cookies.  Please call to register at 598-2789.

Holiday Crafts will be December 4th at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm at the Extension Office. You will be making Christmas Star ornaments at 10:00 am, Ugly Christmas Sweater Ornaments at 11:00 am and hanging Christmas Ball at 1:30 pm.  If you register for the Hanging Christmas Ball, you need to bring ¾ yard of fabric and Christmas greenery that you wish to use.  Other items you will want to bring are wire cutters, glue gun & glue stick, and ribbon to coordinate with your ball.  Please call 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.


►Learn how to make a paper flower for Christmas to use for the holidays.  Poinsettia Flowers Session will be taught by Drucie Brown on December 9th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Please call the office at 598-2789 to register.  This program is free and open to the public.


Winter Wonderland will be December 12th at the EXCEL Building from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.  Come have your child’s picture made with Santa.  We will have a craft and coloring pages for the kids and will be serving cookies.  We will also have a volunteer read a Christmas book to the children.  We have held this event now for several years and it has become very popular.  Free and open to the public. No Party Tea Party will be on December 13th. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Clay County Homemaker or at the Clay County Extension Office. You receive a teacup, tea bag or hot chocolate, and a muffin in a gift box. They can be picked up on December 13th at the Clay County Extension Office. Half of all proceeds will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund & the other half will be donated to the Clay County Homemakers.

►Diligent Diabetes Demo will be December 16th at 12:00 pm at the Extension Office.  The Clay County Health Department and the Cooperative Extension Service are presenting a session for diabetics, pre-diabetics, or individuals interested in learning more about diabetes.  Tammy Pennington and Lora Howard will be presenting the program.  Free and open to the public, but please call 598-2789 to register.


►Weigh 2 Go:  So you made a new year’s resolution to improve your health.  The Clay County Extension Office is offering Weigh 2 Go, a self-directed program.  You must come on January 9th at 6:00 pm to weigh the first time.  Then you will come into the office to weigh each week, on your own time, for eight weeks.  You will pick up information each time you come in to weigh that will help you with your goal.  Topics are:  Protein, Exercise, Food Label, Gym, Your Sweet Tooth, & Water.  You must call 598-2789 to register.  This program is free and open to the public.


►Cooking by the Calendar will be January 14th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Come enjoy a delicious recipe from the Extension Calendar with others that love to cook.  Program is free and open to the public, but you must call 598-2789 to register.


Homemaker Council Meeting will be January 27th at 5:00 pm at the Extension Office.


►One Pot Meals will be January 28th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Don’t want a lot of dishes to wash, but want a delicious meal, then come to this class.  Join others that love to share their cooking knowledge.  Please call 598-2789.  Free and open to the public.


Homemaker Card Club – We are starting a new homemaker club in Clay County.  Do you want to learn how to make greeting cards or already make them and want to share your skill?  We will have an organization meeting on February 4, 2020 at 5:30 pm at the Extension Office.  Come learn about Homemakers in Clay County and make a card to take home.  We would love to see you attend!  Please call 598-2789 to register.
