Family and Consumer Sciences: The goal of the Family & Consumer Sciences Program is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.  We address the challenges of critical issues affecting people's daily lives in a changing environment.  Programs focus on economic, social and physical well-being of our clients.  We strengthen personal and family relationships, encourage healthful choices, and identify resources to extend income.

 PROGRAMS


►The Annual Clay County Homemakers Photography Show is coming up in August at the Clay County Extension Office. On Wednesday, August 28th you can enter pictures between 2-6 pm. Photographs will be on display and open to the public on Thursday, August 29th from 12-4 pm and on Friday, August 30th from 11 am-3 pm. Pictures can be picked up between 3-3:30 pm. Entry fee is $5 per picture. Categories include youth, professional, regular, black & white can color. Smallest size 5x7 and largest 16x20. Pictures can be matted, but NO framed pictures. 1st and 2nd place ribbons will be given in each category. 1st place Best of Show is $15 for adult and for youth. 2nd place Best of Show is $10 for adult and for youth. Paper FlowersSeptember 5th at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. Have you seen those beautiful paper flowers that have been at weddings and showers?  Come learn how to make them at this program.  You must call to register for supplies at 598-2789.  Free and open to the public.


Area Homemaker Council Meeting will be in Clay County on September 17th at 10:00 am at the Extension Office.


Eat, Laugh & Craft program will be September 17th at Big Creek School at 5:00 pm.  If you live in the Big Creek area and want to attend, call the Extension Office at 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.


Diabetes Demonstration will be September 23rd from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Tammy Pennington from the Health Department and Lora will be presenting the program.  Lora will doing a demonstration on a diabetic dish.  Preparing foods you can eat and using the correct serving size for the diabetic can make a huge difference in your self-care.  If you plan to attend, please call the Extension Office at 598-2789 and register.  Free and open to the public.


►The Clay County Homemaker’s Council Meeting is September 23rd at 5:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.


Pineapple Pizazz Party will be September 24th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office. Have questions about homemakers?  Want to join? Want to know what we do and how you can become a Clay County Homemaker?  Come learn all about homemakers and all things pineapple.  “Pineapple, the symbol of welcome!”  We will have several pineapple dishes to sample.  Shine and grow with homemakers.  Grow in skills, community and leadership.  Shine as you represent Clay County and Kentucky Homemakers.  Please call 598-2789 to register so we will have enough supplies.  Free and open to the public. 



Cooking by the Calendar is September 26th at 12:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  You will enjoy September calendar recipes. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy new recipes on a monthly basis.  Call 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.


Hand Embroidery, taught by Sheryl Bowling, will be on October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. She will provide all supplies for the class. Cost is $45 per person. You must call 598-2789 to register and you MUST pay the class fee by September 16th to keep your spot.


Wilderness Trail Area Homemakers 2019 Annual Meeting, Stitching Us Together, will be on Saturday, October 26th at the Laurel County Extension Office. Cultural Arts check-in and registration begin at 9:30 am and meeting begins at 10:30 am. Our speaker for the program is Elizabeth Burns. Elizabeth learned how to quilt after losing her sight. Her presentation title “Through Tragedy, Challenge, Perseverance and Triumph, a Quilter is Born” will inspire all who attend. Registration is $10 per homemaker and deadline to register is October 16th. All homemakers are encouraged to attend.
